L.A. is in an economic crisis. Angelenos shouldn’t pay the price. The city needs a practical solution now!

L.A. IS IN A BUDGET CRISIS

Los Angeles is facing a severe economic crisis. A $1 billion budget deficit was caused by overspending, lower-than-expected tax revenues, and wildfire recovery. The city plans to lay off more than 600 city workers, and severe cuts to public services like trash pickup, public safety and emergency response threaten the quality of life for Angelenos. Our city needs new revenue now!

WE HAVE A SOLUTIOn

With hundreds of thousands of tourists planning to attend the 2026 World Cup, 2027 Super Bowl, and 2028 Olympics, L.A. has an opportunity to maximize the benefits of tourism to save city services. Short-term rentals already generate major tax revenue for the city - but in order to help bridge the budget gap, they can be leveraged even further to help prevent anticipated layoffs. By allowing a limited number of people to rent their second home to travelers, we can generate millions in new tourism revenue dedicated for L.A.’s long-term recovery—paid for by tourists, not taxpayers!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

By passing the VACATION RENTAL REVENUE PLAN, we can:

Save public services and help prevent mass layoffs.

1

2

Bolster small businesses and neighborhood services by increasing tourist spending.

3

Ensure L.A. is prepared to accommodate millions of travelers for major events.

This simple solution nearly doubles tax revenue – all from tourism, not working families. The plan creates new, annual revenue for the city including:

$41 Million

in tourist occupancy taxes

$38 Million

in sales tax revenue from guest spending
